Perhaps each Central Conference or US Jurisdiction will support its own Bishops, for example. Or donors and churches could choose which seminary, University or college to support. Maybe I’ll be able to support those missions I believe in while not having to send money to institutions that discriminate against people like me. Maybe it’s time for US churches to step back from trying to “colonize” and save the world and take a look at our own struggling organizations, maybe even ask for help...In the early 20th century the US Methodist church supported an ambitious and successful missionary program in many countries but when the Depression and World War II came, they had to come home because the funding was no longer there. Maybe it’s time the “Global UMC” becomes truly global, in funding as well as mission.Ruthnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615496199721498323.post-62857499835896291532019-05-28T13:00:31.025-05:002019-05-28T13:00:31.025-05:00Thank you for this perspicacious analysis, David. ...Thank you for this perspicacious analysis, David. The possible deleterious effects are indeed dire. One such effect is our capacity and commitment to being a "global" church. As Russ Richey has pointed out some time back, the general church structures are now the only global institutional structures. Also, I wonder if apportionment woes might also spur innovation, rather than just reductions. Hendrik R. Pietersehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03173212170676554682noreply@blogger.com
